Located around 48 miles, north of Lisbon, on the left border of the Tejo River, this Wine Estate belongs to the Álvares Pereira de Melo family (Cadaval) for almost four centuries.

With an ancient tradition and a determinant role in the development of the wine-making regional production, the Wine Estate in Muge is an international reference because of the high quality of the raw materials used, because of the tight selection control of all the phases of fabrication of the wine and also of the final product that offers an unique quality. Facts which are having the undeniable recognition of consumers, specialists of such matters and leaders of opinion.

The Estate and its Stud Farm came into the family by dote with the wedding, in the 17.th century, of Dona Maria de Faro with Don Nuno Álvares Pereira de Melo – 1.st Duke of Cadaval. Since 1648 until today the Stud Farm suffered various crossovers that suited the taste and needs of the ages. In the 17.th century the mares were divided into two herds. This way, two types of completely distinct horses were born, some more heavy and proper for work in the field and and other much more swift and thin for the saddle. Since 1954 and under the guidance of Fernando Sommer d’Andrade, a great friend of the family, the line followed has been the use of Lusitano stallions with the predominance of Ater Real, Sommer, Veiga, besides their own, of brown fur and generous and robust temper. The Stud Farm has several teams of horses entering in competitions and some horses involved in bullfighting. Horses are being exported to Belgium, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Switzerland and Spain.

Through substantial investments in this area, the estate is nowadays the leading domaine offering a variety of different touristic services to its guests. Incentives, Congresses and Seminars, Team Building, Wind Surf, Wine tasting tours, Bird Watching, Carriage driving, Hunting and Fishing are some of the activities available.
