Designed by the renowned golf architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., the Penha Longa Golf Club is comprised of the Atlantic and Mosteiro Courses. The Atlantic course was inaugurated in 1992, whereas the Mosteiro course dates back to 1995. Known as the championship tees course, the terrain is somewhat hilly, with fast greens. The last three holes are the best ones. The 16th, a long par 4, invites players to drive over a valley to an elevated green, protected by a bunker. The 17th requires great accuracy. Finally, the 18th is a par 5 with a birdie chance depending on the wind strength and direction. Located within a deluxe resort, this is a mountain course with views over the mountain and the sea. Quinta da Penha Longa is a historic site, as the first convent of the Order of St. Jerome was built here. |
